Comparative price levels

In order to help assess the purchasing power of the remuneration of personnel abroad, we publish figures on comparative price levels across 19 EU member states, Turkey, Switzerland and the United States. These are compiled by the OECD, and show the differences in price levels between countries. They are based on the ratio of purchasing power parities (rates of currency conversion that eliminate price level difference) to exchange rates.

How to use the figures

The table should be read vertically. Each column shows the number of specified monetary units needed in each country to buy the same representative basket of consumer goods and services. In each case the representative basket costs a hundred units in the country whose currency is specified at the top of the column.
