Summary of the editorial from IDS Pay Report 977, June 2007 Age regulations give impetus to changes in employers' policies When the age discrimination regulations came into force in October last year, we anticipated that changes to employers' policies would be gradual, and even thought that some legal cases might be brought before best practice was clarified. However, our regular monitoring of changes to pay and conditions has uncovered the fact that employers are quietly making moves in a number of areas. Some of these steps were in train before the regulations, but the advent of the legislation appears to have been a catalyst for further change. In this issue we report on the environmental engineering industry's review of its age-related policies and Asda's removal of its 'junior' pay rates.
