Pay in fast food, pubs and restaurants 2007

National Minimum Wage continues to have a significant impact

We have recorded a median pay increase of 3 per cent in the fast food, pubs and restaurants sector in the 12-month period to the end of November 2007. The median is below that for the whole economy, which for the same pay period was 3.5%, but closer to this year's National Minimum Wage (NMW) rise of 3.2 per cent. The NMW continues to have a significant impact on pay levels across the sector with most companies setting £5.52 as their adult starter rate, unlike in the retail sector where most employers pay above the legal minimum.
