IDS Pay in Nurseries survey 2008 From IDS Pay Report 998, April 2008 Skills and qualifications are key determinants of progression In March 2008, IDS carried out a survey of employers in the independent nursery sector. The survey looked at the workforce profile, pay levels, recruitment and retention issues and the impact of the National Minimum Wage (NMW) uprating on nurseries’ pay policies. The survey findings show the importance of minimum wage legislation in the sector, with minimum starting rates and lowest rates in line with the NMW for adults. However, only a minority of respondents operate age-related pay, with skills and qualifications more important in determining progression. The survey covers :
