The findings of this authoritive report are based on the responses to a detailed questionnaire sent to engineering companies in June 2007. As well as asking for information on current rates of pay for both manual workers and white-collar grades, companies were also asked a range of other questions on such issues as pay progression arrangements and pay benchmarking. The survey also gathered details of standard terms and conditions such as hours and holidays, bonus pay, premium rates and pensions. In addition to these questionnaire responses, we have included equivalent information accumulated by IDS over the 12 months from August 2006 to July 2007 from our regular monitoring of pay and conditions developments in the engineering industry. Together these sources provide a wide-ranging coverage of pay and conditions in engineering in the UK.
