IDS Pay Report 982, August 2007

Pay in the chemical and allied industries

Pay deals driven up by rising inflation

In the 12-month period to the end of June 2007 the median pay settlement in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries was 3.6 per cent, with half of all deals clustered between 3.45 and 4 per cent. Of the 75 pay deals monitored by IDS only six were below the 3 per cent level. This year a larger proportion of deals have been at or above the 4 per cent level compared to last year. Our analysis shows that both general cost-of-living pay increases and budgets for allocating merit-based rises have been driven up by rising inflation. Analysis of pay levels for process operators shows that the average annual salary is £20,672.
