The trainee rate (payable for the first six months of employment to workers receiving accredited training) is £4.83 an hour, also effective from 1 October 2009.

The rate for young workers aged 18 to 21 is also £4.83 an hour.

The youth rate, payable for workers aged 16-17, is £3.57 an hour.

From 1 October 2010 the adult minimum wage will apply from the age of 21, instead of 22.
