Employment & Unemployment Figures



The number of people in employment in the three months to May 2010 stood at 28.984 million, up from 28.824 million in the three months to February 2010. The rate of employment relative to the working age population stood at 72.3 per cent in the three months to May, up 0.3 per cent from the three months to February.
 
Unemployment, as measured by the wider ILO definition, was 2.468 million in the three months to May, down from 2. 502 million in the three months to February. The ILO rate of unemployment was 7.8 per cent in the three months to May, down 0.1 per cent on the three months to February.
 
The number of people claiming Jobseeker's Allowance was 1.460 million in June 2010, down from 1.480 million in May.
