Extract from IDS Executive Compensation Review 323 ECR surveys in-house lawyers’ pay and benefits
It is estimated that around 6,000 solicitors and barristers work in commerce and industry, but there seems to be little information publicly available on their pay and benefits. This article looks to shine some light on the rewards of this key specialist group, and we collected details from 22 companies on the salaries of their most senior in-house lawyer and deputy. A comprehensive breakdown of the remuneration of in-house lawyers by individual organisation, sector and size as measured by turnover and number of employees is provided, and shows a large gap between the lowest- and the highest-paid in-house lawyers. Details are also given on the latest salary reviews and additional information is provided on bonus payments and benefits, as well as the duties and responsibilities for in-house lawyers. Tables show the range and distribution of salaries, most popular benefits and a comprehensive table listing remuneration details.
