Employment in France 2006

Employment issues caused major fractures in French society in 2006.

Political capital depleted, the government has cautiously continued its move away from traditional employment protection measures to those intended to stimulate job growth.

2005/6 saw a renaissance in collective pay bargaining, centring on pay, helped vastly by the government’s declared preference to legislate to promote such practice. However, reform of trade union representation remains on the agenda.
