Working Time Handbook

This IDS Employment Law Handbook is concerned with the law regulating working time in the United Kingdom.

It covers:

• weekly working time (the ‘48-hour week’)
• rest entitlements
• annual leave
• night work.

The Handbook gives a detailed and comprehensive account of the law in this area and considers all the recent court decisions clarifying its scope. In particular, the Handbook reviews the latest case law on holiday rights, explaining how these rights apply in practice.

The Handbook also takes account of the recent changes to the scope of the ‘excluded sectors’ exception as a result of amendments to the EC Working Time Directive and the introduction of sector-specific working time rules.
